Chimney Inspections
A proper chimney inspection is not a surface-level review. It is a comprehensive evaluation of the system to determine condition, function, and any underlying defects that may not be visible from the exterior.
At Done Right Chimney, inspections include both internal and external evaluation. We perform a camera scan of the flue, assess accessible components, and review the structure for signs of deterioration, improper construction, or past modifications.
This process allows us to identify issues such as:
- Cracked or missing flue tiles
- Creosote buildup or obstructions
- Structural deterioration
- Water intrusion and damage
- Improper clearances or installation concerns
Inspections are performed in accordance with NFPA 211 standards and are required prior to any repair, relining, or appliance installation work.
Without a proper inspection, decisions are being made without a full understanding of the system.
If you are unsure of the condition of your chimney, an inspection is the appropriate starting point.
WHY is an Inspection sometimes MORE IMPORTANT than the sweep?
Our services differ from other chimney sweep companies as we offer a comprehensive inspection and sweep appointment, rather than just sweeping the chimney blindly which can cause more damage. This inspection will document the current baseline of the chimney system which could be used as evidence should any sudden event damage your chimney.
Our crews are Certified with the National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG) therefore are held to a standard of service and accountability for the service we provide.
It's recommended in the NFPA 211 Standards to have your chimney inspected annually and swept as needed, sometimes more often, especially if you use it frequently for heating.
Chimney inspections are important for several reasons:
Regular inspections can help identify potential fire hazards, such as creosote buildup, cracks, or obstructions. These issues can increase the risk of a chimney fire, which can cause significant property damage and even endanger lives.
As part of a sweep and inspection visit, if the flue needs sweeping, the crew will also perform a sweep. A chimney sweep can be as important to help with the removal or reduction of creosote buildup or other debris blockages to help prevent backdrafts of hazardous gases and the proper ventilation of the byproducts of combustion.
